Screen Mirroring App Data Usage

How much data does screen mirroring use?

Estimate the bitrate, the data per hour and the total for a mirroring session. Open the advanced options to see how frame rate, codec and quality change it - the same controls the Screen Mirroring app gives you.

Want to use less?

Drop to 720p, stay at 30 fps, or switch to a newer codec like HEVC or AV1 and the data falls fast. The Screen Mirroring app lets you set each of these; mirror over your home Wi-Fi and it does not touch your mobile data at all.

Pick the resolution, codec, frame rate and bitrate that suit your network - far more control than the built-in methods give you.

Good to know

Does screen mirroring use my data?

Mirroring sends the picture device to device over your local Wi-Fi, so on a home network it does not use your mobile data plan at all. It only counts against data when you mirror over the internet (for example over a phone hotspot, or the over-the-internet option in the app). The numbers above estimate the size of that stream so you can plan for a metered connection.

The figures are estimates. Real bitrate varies with how much of the screen is moving: a still slideshow uses far less than fast 60 fps video. Not enough bandwidth? Run the Wi-Fi speed test for mirroring.
