Screen Mirroring App Tutorials

How to screen mirror an iPad to a TV

An iPad has three ways to get its screen onto a TV. AirPlay is built in and works with Apple TV and many newer smart TVs. The Screen Mirroring app covers every other TV with a web browser, plus Fire TV, Roku and Chromecast. A cable works on any TV with an HDMI port.

Quick answer

If your TV has AirPlay (Apple TV, Samsung from 2018, LG from 2018, Roku OS 9.4 and newer), open Control Center on the iPad and tap Screen Mirroring. For any other TV, open tvee.app in the TV's web browser, then scan the QR code or enter the six character code in the Screen Mirroring app on the iPad. With a cable, a USB-C or Lightning to HDMI adapter connects the iPad to the TV.

Pick your method

Which method works with your TV

Apple TV

Use AirPlay. Open Control Center on the iPad, tap Screen Mirroring and pick the Apple TV. If a code appears on the TV, type it on the iPad.

Samsung, LG, Roku and some Hisense TVs

Samsung TVs from 2018, LG TVs from 2018, Roku devices with Roku OS 9.4 and newer, and some newer Hisense TVs accept AirPlay. Samsung, LG and Hisense also have a web browser, so the app works there too. The Samsung and LG guides show both ways; the steps are the same on an iPad.

Fire TV

A Fire TV Stick has no AirPlay (only some Fire TV smart TVs do). Use the Screen Mirroring app with the receiver from the Amazon Appstore, as in the iPhone to Fire TV guide.

Chromecast and Google TV

iPadOS has no built-in Google Cast. Single apps such as YouTube can cast their own videos, but to mirror the whole screen use the Screen Mirroring for Chromecast app, as in the iPhone to Chromecast guide.

Older Roku, game consoles and other TVs

A Roku without AirPlay works with the Screen Mirroring channel, see iPhone to Roku. Anything with a web browser, including PS5 and PS4, works with the app steps below.

With a cable

Use a USB-C or Lightning to HDMI adapter, whichever fits your iPad, and an HDMI cable to the TV. The iPad mirrors its screen. On supported iPad Pro and iPad Air models, Stage Manager can extend the screen instead: open Control Center and tap the Stage Manager button.

Step by step

Mirror an iPad to any TV with the app

Open the receiver on the TV

On the TV, open the web browser and go to tvee.app. A QR code and a six character code appear.

Join the same Wi-Fi

Put your iPad on the same Wi-Fi network as the TV.

Open the app and tap Start Mirroring

Open the Screen Mirroring app on the iPad and tap Start Mirroring.

Scan the QR code or enter the code

Tap Scan and point the iPad camera at the QR code on the TV, or type the six character code shown on the TV.

Start the broadcast

Tap the broadcast button, choose Screen Mirroring, then tap Start Broadcast and wait for the short countdown.

Your iPad appears on the TV

Your iPad screen now shows on the TV. To end, tap Stop Mirroring in the app.

Turn the iPad sideways before you start, so the picture fills more of the TV. The screen resolution tool shows the shape of your screen. If it will not connect, try the troubleshooter or check your exact combination.

FAQ

Common questions about mirroring an iPad to a TV

Can I mirror an iPad to a TV without an Apple TV?

Yes. Samsung TVs from 2018, LG TVs from 2018, Roku devices with Roku OS 9.4 and newer, and some newer Hisense TVs accept AirPlay directly. For any other TV with a web browser, use the Screen Mirroring app and the receiver at tvee.app.

Why are there black bars around my iPad on the TV?

Most iPads have a squarer screen than a TV. The TV keeps the whole picture visible, so it adds black bars. Turn the iPad sideways to fill more of the TV.

Can I mirror an iPad to a Fire TV or a Chromecast?

Yes, with an app. A Fire TV Stick has no AirPlay, and iPadOS has no built-in Google Cast, so you use the Screen Mirroring app with the Fire TV receiver, or the Screen Mirroring for Chromecast app.

Can I connect an iPad to a TV with a cable?

Yes. Use a USB-C or Lightning to HDMI adapter, whichever fits your iPad, and an HDMI cable. On supported iPad Pro and iPad Air models, Stage Manager can extend the screen to the TV instead of mirroring it.

Do the iPhone guides work for an iPad?

Yes. The Screen Mirroring app works the same on iPhone and iPad, so every iPhone guide on this site also fits an iPad.

Is there sound?

Sound is a PRO feature in the Screen Mirroring app.
